The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point welcomes to its spring semester two instructors, Pastor Andy Hawkins of The Village Church, and Professor Adrian Kerr.
Hawkins will present “How We Got Our Bible” on Tuesday, March 12, at 10:15 a.m. in the Village Church Auditorium at Shell Point. This presentation will take a historical look at how the Bible came to comprise 39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament books. The Canon of Scripture will be examined, and questions raised by critics over the ages will also be addressed. On St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17, Professor Adrian Kerr will present “A Brief History of Ireland,” at 10 a.m. in the Grand Cypress Room of The Woodlands. Kerr will review the many highs and lows of Ireland’s history, including iron age developments, early Christian Ireland, the Viking era, and the Potato Blight famine. Tickets for this historical retrospective are $10, and may be purchased by calling 239-489-8472.
Kerr will also lecture on “The Forgotten Worlds of the Americas” on Tuesday, March 31, at 10 a.m. in the Grand Cypress Room in The Woodlands. Kerr will explore the development of indigenous civilizations in the Americas, their independent inventions, and the complex religions at the core of their identities. The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point is an educational initiative that provides approximately 80 classes each semester, and encompasses a well-rounded curriculum of instructive opportunities for senior adults.
