FORT MYERS, FL (January 23, 2014) – The Academy of Lifelong Learning recognizes the 450th anniversary of the birth of The Bard with two February sessions of “A Salute to Shakespeare” scheduled on
-
- Thursday, Feb. 6: Session one offers an examination of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, Othello. The discussion will first explore the dramatic elements that support a true tragedy and how Shakespeare incorporated them into his plays. The class will then focus on this play’s source, plot, characters, and themes.
- Thursday, Feb. 20: Session two highlights one of the playwright’s romance plays, the tragicomedy The Winter’s Tale. This story presents a plot that deals with jealousy and redemption while incorporating a companion set of contrasting actions that are truly entertaining. The play also contains a stage direction that has both amused and horrified audiences for more than 400 years.
The sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point. “A Salute to Shakespeare” will be taught by Ray Boyce, a Shell Point resident who studied Shakespeare at Oxford as a part of his ongoing passion for continuing education.
Both sessions are free; however, seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call 239-489-8472 for more information.
