CUTLINE: Shell Point Retirement Community continues its 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series with a performance by Boilermaker Jazz Band at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 5, 2019) – Shell Point Retirement Community’s 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series welcomes Boilermaker Jazz Band to the stage for a performance of “Benny Goodman: When Swing Was King.” The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at The Village Church on The Island at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Blvd. in Fort Myers. The acclaimed Boilermaker Jazz Band is led by Paul Cosentino on clarinet, full-time bandleader who founded the band in 1988 at Carnegie Mellon University. Jennifer McNulty lends her smooth and sultry vocal stylings to ballads, standards and bubblin’ swing numbers. The Boilermaker Jazz Band has performed at major international venues, including Lincoln Center and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland.
During this Shell Point concert event, the Boilermaker Jazz Band will present the best of Benny Goodman’s small band classics, big band themes and great tunes made famous by “Goodman’s Gals.” Known as the “King of Swing” for his iconic Big Band recordings of the 1930s and ‘40s –Goodman is instantly recognizable and remains popular today for his many musical numbers, including “Avalon,” “After You’ve Gone” and “Body and Soul.”
