FORT MYERS, Fla. ( March 12, 2015) – Peter Dys, president and CEO of Shell Point Retirement Community, has been reappointed to the Governor’s Continuing Care Advisory Council by Florida Governor Rick Scott for a term running through Sept. 30, 2017.
“It has been my honor to serve on the Governor’s Continuing Care Advisory Council since 2005,” said Dys. “I’m privileged to take part in another productive year with the Governor’s Council, as we continue to pursue high standards of care for Florida’s lifecare retirement communities.
The Council acts in an advisory capacity to the Office of Insurance Regulation. The Council recommends to the Office any changes in statues and rules pertaining to continuing care retirement communities. Additionally, upon the request of the Office, the Council assists with any corrective action, rehabilitation, or cessation of business plan for a provider.
As a member of this Council, Dys has provided assistance to Florida Representatives and Senators on issues regarding senior care for more than a decade. Dys has served as Shell Point’s president and CEO since August 1985, and also on its Board of Directors from 1981 to 1985. He gained previous experience as the Founder and Executive Director of the Lancaster County Office of Aging in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from 1974 to 1985, where he was responsible for a broad array of community-based services to assist older persons to remain as independent and autonomous as possible. In 2008, Dys received the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging for his outstanding achievements in the retirement and lifecare industry.
