FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 4, 2017) — Shell Point Retirement Community recently began construction on a $28 million expansion at The Springs assisted living facility, located on the corner of Shell Point Boulevard and Summerlin Road. Construction is slated for completion in late 2018.
When the project is complete, The Springs will sport a brand-new exterior design, along with extensive interior enhancements. The construction of several additional wings will result in 27 new assisted living residences, a recreation wing with numerous gathering spaces, and a 28-unit memory support residence with an outdoor courtyard.
“With Shell Point’s 30-year history of providing assisted living services, we know what appeals to residents. We are excited to accommodate the growing need for high-caliber healthcare services, while incorporating new innovations and best practices,” said Rita Southern, Shell Point director of assisted living and resident support services.
On the west side of The Springs, an assisted living wing will provide 27 new apartments over covered parking. A recreation wing will be constructed to the south to accommodate large gatherings and host Shell Point’s well-attended day respite program.
Construction on the east side of the existing building will feature a new 28-unit memory support residence. “Our holistic approach to supporting residents with memory impairment focuses on individual strengths and abilities. This allows residents to thrive within a robust, structured program while maintaining dignity in a comfortable and protected environment,” said Kelli Meyung, senior director of healthcare at Shell Point.
Extensive redesign of interior spaces and renovations to exterior surfaces will create a unified, cohesive appearance between newly constructed areas and existing spaces.
