Professor Adrian Kerr, a well known author and educator, returns to Shell Point to trace Hong Kong’s epic journey from a tiny uninhabited swampy British colony after the Opium War of 1839, to its current status as global financial economic powerhouse and business capital. Meaning ‘Fragrant Harbor,’ the city has a dramatic physical setting with an expansive skyline overlooking the picturesque Victoria Harbor. “We will put Hong Kong in the context of China’s fascinating long and turbulent history and track its rise under the 1997 ‘one country two systems’ mandate,” said Professor Kerr. “We will discuss how it has become the model for the rest of China.”
