A new addition this year is Jim Carpenter (at right, with Shell Point’s director of golf Mike Mongoven), Shell Point’s new PGA-certified class A1 head professional. A graduate of Indiana State University, where he earned a full baseball scholarship, Jim has been serving golf courses in southwest Florida for several years. “He’s a great teacher,” said Mongoven, “and a heck of a golfer.”
In November, the Shell Point Golf Club celebrated its first year of being open to the public. “It’s been great to know our members and residents who visit us regularly,” said Mongoven, “as well as our seasonal visitors from up north and our year-round golfers in Lee County. We’ve had tournaments, exciting weekly league action, parties and events, and even a few holes-in-one!”
Another new edition to the fully-stocked pro shop is Mulligan’s, a full service snack stop. It’s the perfect place to get a quick snack and drink before your round, or a well-deserved meal after you’ve trounced the others in your foursome. Take a look at the specials Mulligan’s has to offer this month: as part of their Super Sandwich combo, you can get your choice of sandwich – roast beef, ham, turkey, chicken salad, or ham salad; a side of cole slaw or potato salad; and a fountain drink for only $3.50! Open to the public, it’s the newest way to refuel, re-energize, or celebrate that hole-in-one.
More than just a championship course, the Shell Point Golf Club provides the all-around golf experience. It was designed by Gordon Lewis, architect of some of the finest golf courses in Florida, with challenging fairways, winding water hazards, and five tees on every hole. This provides challenges and rewards to every golfer, from the newest beginners to the biggest hitters. A driving range and practice green are also at your disposal.
