Variety Praised by Contemporary Long Term Care Magazine
FORT MYERS, FL – Bountiful buffets at the Crystal Room. Grill specialties at the Island Cafe. Homemade specials at the Cafe Promenade. Fine dining at The Mahogany Room.
The variety of dining choices available at Shell Point has caught the attention of Contemporary Long Term Care magazine, a trade publication that covers the industry of healthcare and housing for senior adults. In its September 2002 issue, Shell Point was honored with an “Order of Excellence” award for the best customer service and dining procedures among all senior facilities in the country.
“I’m proud of all of our dining services employees and the hard work they do every day,” said Al Slickers, director of hospitality.
One of the most important aspects of Shell Point’s excellence, according to the magazine, is utilizing the feedback continuously garnered from residents. “We exist only to serve them,” said Slickers, “and we thrive on their thoughts and comments. Much of this award belongs to them.”
In their evaluations of Shell Point’s dining procedures, the judges’ comments tell the tale. One remarked, “One of the things, among several, that struck me is… there was a wide range of options open to residents.” Another judge commented, “One could easily mistake any one of these eateries as intended to be a restaurant first, and not a retirement community first that offered food service…”
This is not the first time Shell Point’s dining services have been nationally recognized. USA Today featured a photo of the Crystal Room on the cover of its Life section on August 11, 2000, in an article describing the changing tastes of seniors in America. Shell Point as a community has also received numerous awards and distinctions, including being named “Best Retirement Community” by Contemporary Long Term Care magazine and the “creme de la creme of retirement communities” by Money magazine.
