How Carbon 60 Can Reduce Inflammation With Dr. Joe Nieusma

Our conversation is a fascinating one because it challenges some of the core assumptions many of us have about modern health. My guest is Dr. Joe Nieusma. He’s a senior toxicologist with nearly four decades of experience across the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries. Over the course of his career, he has evaluated the impact of drugs, chemicals, and environmental exposures on the human body. What he has discovered may surprise you.

While much of modern medicine is focused on treating symptoms, Dr. Joe has spent years asking a different question. What if many of the issues we’re facing are the result of an accumulated toxic burden? What if the body, when given the right conditions, is far more capable of healing than we think? Through his work with individuals, he has helped people reduce unnecessary medications, improve their overall health, and rethink what it means to age well.

We also explore his work with Live Longer Labs in a compound called C60, which is an emerging and somewhat controversial molecule that’s gaining attention in longevity circles for its potential role in combating oxidative stress. We approach this conversation with both curiosity and healthy skepticism.

We unpacking what the science says and what it doesn’t, and how to think critically about new interventions in the health space. This episode is all about cutting through the noise, understanding what’s driving chronic illness, how to reduce your toxic load, and what it takes to truly extend not just your lifespan, but your health span. With that, let’s dive into this episode with Dr. Joe Nieusma.

Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Dr. Joe Nieusma | Inflammation

Dr. Joe, thank you so much for being with us. You have a wealth of expertise, experience, and knowledge. I’m so excited to have you on the show and unpack all of those 40 years of expertise that you have to bring to us. Thanks so much for being here. Thanks for taking the time to be with us.

Thanks for having me on the show. I appreciate the chance to share some pearls of wisdom with your audience and maybe spark some thought.

How Dr. Nieusma Became A Toxicology Expert

I’d love to understand how you got into the role that you have. You’re a toxicology expert, a toxicologist. You have your PhD in Toxicology. You’ve been doing this for many years, almost 4 decades. How did you end up in this role? What led you down the path to become?

It’s a long time when you think about those four decades. I grew up in a family where my dad was an oral surgeon. He took care of people. I grew up going through high school, thinking that I wanted to be a physician, thinking that I wanted to go to medical school. I went to undergrad and had biology and chemistry with a pre-med focus. I was thinking, “I’m going to go to medical school.”

I got a cooperative job with Dow Chemical in my last year of college in Midland, Michigan. I was working with a bunch of PhDs. Those guys were saying, “You’re going to go to medical school, and you’re going to be a physician, but as you apply to medical school, you should think about graduate school. You should apply to graduate school, too,” so I did. I applied to 8 medical schools and 2 graduate programs in 1990 when I graduated from undergrad. Lo and behold, I got into two graduate programs.

I had an interview at one of the medical schools, and they wanted me. They lost my physical samples and wanted me to go redo the physical. Which was an hour drive, in the throes of finishing your last semester at college. I never did it. I ended up going to graduate school. I wound up at the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy and got my PhD in Toxicology.

Instead of getting a postdoc and staying in research and academics, I got the one job that I applied for out of graduate school. I applied to be the Industrial Toxicologist for Geneva Pharmaceuticals. It was a generics house. It was quickly acquired after I started by Sandoz, which was the generic house for Novartis. Novartis is one of the big pharma companies. I worked for them for almost six years. It was my job to make sure that the hundred different products that we made under this one roof weren’t hurting anybody who was making those products.

It was all about employee and patient safety. My bread and butter was setting limits for the amount of drug product that someone can be exposed to in their job before the adverse effect risk. I was also setting the limit of drug A that could be found in drug B before it becomes a problem for the person taking drug A. Since we’re making so many different things, you had to have a plan to prevent cross-contamination. Imagine that. The world of pharma does that.

I worked for Corporate America for almost six years before I realized that Dr. Joe’s mouth and Corporate America weren’t synonymous beings. When big corporations ask employees for their opinion, they don’t want it. As a newbie, I didn’t realize that. I moved on and started my own company. That was in 2004. It’s called Superior Toxicology & Wellness. I can be found on SuperiorToxicology.com. I’ve been doing that.

I’ve been doing pharmaceutical consulting, medical device consulting, and doing personal health and wellness consulting. That’s where I help people who find themselves on multiple medications, and they don’t know how or why they got there. I help you go through your medical history and give you a bunch of questions and challenges for your physicians to say, “Prove that I still need these drugs and in these doses.” You can find that on my website. It’s the Dr. Joe for HOPE program.

It’s not free, but it’s not very expensive. If someone’s on five or fewer drugs, it’s $150. If someone’s on six or more, it’s $250. If it were free, that’s all I would ever do because there are so many people who are on so many drugs, and they don’t know how they got there. It’s something that I help people out with. People are needlessly on antidepressants and statins. There are so many things that people are on.

Many people are needlessly dependent on antidepressants and statins, but they never understand how insidious these drug products can be.

People don’t understand, because they’ve never read the drug literature, how insidious these drug products can be. As a PhD toxicologist who has worked in the industry for a long time, I’m one of the first people to say that drugs are not the answer. You can maintain your youthful appeal and nearly all of your body’s physiology without the load of pharmaceutical products that your nighttime TV will lead you to believe, “You need to ask your doctor about this drug.”

There is one key thing that I always like to say. How you deal with that is to manage chronic inflammation. That’s how I weaved my way through Corporate America, the drug industry, and started my own shop, and started doing consulting. I’ve consulted for all the big pharma’s and a lot of the little ones. They do amazing things.

There are some things that you can’t substitute for some drugs. The personalized cancer treatments are phenomenal, with some of the great stuff they’re doing there. It’s so different years ago when they hit the cancer victim with a sledgehammer and hoped they wouldn’t kill him. There are so many different therapies that you can’t uniformly say, “I don’t want to do any chemotherapy.” You have to listen, figure out what it is, do some education, and figure out what it is they’re trying to do for you.

These are the top six conditions. I call them the diseases of the aged. Quickly, it’s heart disease, diabetes, cancer, cognitive decline, which covers your Parkinson’s, dementia, and Alzheimer’s, arthritis, and infections. Every single one of those six disease classes has a common denominator, and that common denominator is inflammation. Inflammation and reactive oxygen species are detrimental to the human body.

If you believe in the Bible, then one of the tenets you would believe in is that the body is designed to live right around 135 or 140 years. The only thing that changes that is environmental exposures. Nobody eats that biblical diet. There is a piece of science that corroborates that nicely. There’s a group that was out of Paris. The guy’s name is Baati. He did the very first study on Carbon 60. Carbon 60 is what I would say is the planet’s best antioxidant.

Vitamin C does a good job. Everybody’s heard of glutathione. That’s your poster child for cellular defenses and antioxidant stuff. If you want to get ahead of inflammation, Carbon 60 is the way to go. You can Google Carbon 60. You can find hundreds of different products. It’s a buyer-beware network. It’s a buyer-beware market. You need to make sure you’re buying a product that has ultra-pure Carbon 60 and a product that’s not using any solvents in the process.

If you also Google Carbon 60 toxicity, you will get at least two articles that are very prominent, saying, “Don’t use this stuff. It’ll kill you.” They talk about solvent toxicity and side chain toxicity. Those two articles are 100% true right up until the part about it killing you. It will hurt you a little bit, but it won’t kill you. There is no upper end of Carbon 60 dose, Carbon 60 pure, solvent-free, that will kill anything. It is very good for the human body because it absorbs reactive oxygen species and squelches inflammation well. Ultra-pure and solvent-free. I have a favorite product that I recommend. It’s from Live Longer Labs. Go to LiveLongerLabs.com.

This study, which came out in 2012, was right after Carbon 60 was discovered by Buckminster Fuller. He discovered Carbon 60 and figured out that they made those round balls. They named them Buckyballs. The older folks in the audience will probably remember that, talking about the Buckyballs. This guy over in Paris said, “I’m going to put an end to this. I’m going to take this Carbon 60, these Buckyballs, suspend them in olive oil, and feed a bunch of it to a colony of rats. We’re going to see how fast these suckers die.”

None of them died. They lasted about two years. We got out in two years, and the control rats were all dead. A little bit longer than two years, the olive oil rats lived a little bit longer, but then most of them were dead. Not a single Carbon 60 rat had died. Not one. They had given the rats the Carbon 60 daily for a while, and then they turned it down to weekly, and then monthly. They didn’t even get a daily supply. It petered off.

This research organization committed a mortal sin of science. They got tired of taking care of the animal colony and quit the study early. They don’t know how long these animals would have lived, but they increased the lifespan of these rats by 93%. By the way, they did their calculation, if it’s a direct comparison to humans, it comes out to about 140 years. Imagine that.

The guy who invented the product from Live Longer Labs is named Max. We could call him a guru. He lives on top of a mountain out in Colorado. He’s a super smart guy. He’d done a lot of consulting for NASA, Jet Propulsion, and lots of other high-security work. I met him when I was leading a think tank out there, solving other problems of the world.

He had a mom. When he was out in California solving a problem for me, other family members were taking care of his mom back in Colorado. When he came home from working for me, the family members were telling Max, “Your mom’s getting bad. Her mind’s beginning to slip. She’s beginning to have some early-stage dementia. What are we going to do with her?”

Max had always approached problems like, “I’m not going to accept the first diagnosis. I’m going to go do some research.” His research led him to Carbon 60, the study with the rats, and all of the anti-inflammatory action. Max formulated an olive oil, took a bunch of it himself to make sure it didn’t kill him right away, and then he gave it to his mom. She was already about 80 years old when she first got the Carbon 60 from Live Longer Labs.

Over time, his mom went from his little town in Colorado, got on a bus, and rode the bus to the next neighboring town. She went to the Division of Motor Vehicles, retook her driver’s license test without her glasses, and passed both. She was issued a driver’s license as an octogenarian, and then rode the bus back. She told her son that she wanted them to buy her car because she had a driver’s license.

It’s a great story.

His mom recovered 100% of her mental activity. Max told me once that his mom got so much better and so much back to normal that she irritated Max. She lived another eight years, and then something else major failed, and she crossed and made her transition. That story is where the origin of Carbon 60 hits home. Max had a group of about half a dozen people. All of them took a telomere test before they took C60.

For those of you who don’t understand, a telomere is part of the cell division machinery. The length of the telomeres gives you an insight into the health of the cell. The longer the telomeres, the longer the cell will divide and function at 100% capacity. The shorter the telomeres, the more toward the senescent side of the cell, and it becomes a resource sink instead of helping the body.

These six people took this test, and then they took C60. I think it was about two months. I’m not positive about that. They redid the test. To all six of them, the company that sent them the test, after they did the analysis, said, “There must’ve been something wrong with that test. We’re going to send you another test. We can’t believe the results.” All of them gained years of vitality in their telomere test.

Could telomere shortening then be considered a result of inflammation?

Inflammation, aging, or anything that’s attacking your body that your body is not dealing with on a daily basis. It’s some pathological process that has not been prevented by your body. It is very likely a function of inflammation.

I’ve had Dr. Bill Andrews on the show, who’s a telomere expert. I encourage the audience to go back and check that episode out. I have a basic understanding of telomeres and 1 of the 12 hallmarks of aging as well, but I haven’t heard about C60 impacting telomere length. That’s amazing. I love things that have data behind them. You can test this out and see how you feel. It’s one thing to say, “I feel a little bit better,” but not to see physiological data on it. That’s cool.

There are six guys hanging out and taking the test. I could probably show you the before and after test. I’d have to ask Max to dig it up. That’s another one of the origins of this product. Max had helped his mom. Max had made his mom better, if you will, and Max was happy with that. That was Max’s goal. Max’s goal wasn’t to create some supplement that all the world would love and then would bug him for the rest of his life to make it for the rest of the world. I think he still resents that to this day because it messes with his balance between playing and working.

What you got to understand is Max is 70 years old, but he looks like he’s 40. Several times a week in his little mountain town, he runs full court basketball against twenty-year-olds and beats them. He played basketball growing up, so he has the big joint chronic pain, which is in your hip, knee, and ankle. He doesn’t have that anymore when he’s on C60. I’m a very big guy. I’m Dutch. I’m from the Friesland Islands, so there’s a lot of Viking heritage in my lineage. I’m probably larger than 95% of the people in this world.

When I’m on Carbon60, first and foremost, what I notice is that my field of vision goes clear. You know how sometimes when you blink, you get those little floaties that you see. They’re gone within 24 to 48 hours with me. I noticed I don’t need as much sleep. I noticed my energy levels are through the roof. I noticed the aches and pains of being a big guy and going through normal everyday life are minimized or eliminated. You don’t get up off the couch, going, “Ugh.” You get off the couch and stretch a little bit.

It’s one of those types of things that a lot of people can take C60. They can take a whole bottle of it. There are 150 capsules in the bottle. It’s designed to take five a day, so it lasts a month. The last time I talked to him, he was like, “I don’t notice any difference. I don’t think there’s anything going on here.” I was like, “Stop.” All the stuff that’s done comes creeping back in.

A lot of people realize what C60 does for them when they stop taking it, because then, all of a sudden, they’re not sleeping well through the night. Their hips, ankles, and knees are all feeling cruddy again. They wake up and look in the mirror again, and they’re like, “Who’s this old guy that came back?” That’s the way I share this product, the C60. It’s formulated in black cedar. Anybody who knows their supplements knows. It’s Nigella sativa. That is an extremely powerful natural product in and of itself.

As a PhD in toxicology, it is knowing that drugs are not the answer. Western medicine, the United States in particular, is very arrogant in their training. They think that they can solve problems by pushing pills and not doing any prevention, nutrition, or curing of disease. All they’re doing is creating long-term customers. By ignoring all of the information of the Far East and thousands of years of natural product chemistries, Western medicine is arrogant.

Some people agree with me there, and some people don’t. Why would someone ignore such a vast knowledge base or such a data set that they could draw on? Most of these drug products are natural products that have been synthesized in the lab anyway. Without natural product history, the pharmaceutical industry wouldn’t exist.

Chronic Inflammation: The Common Denominator

You’ve covered a lot of fascinating topics here. What we’re talking about is managing chronic inflammation. That’s the point you made. This is the common denominator. We have the reactive oxidative species and inflammation.”

They’re generated by everything. The stuff you breathe, the stuff you eat, the stuff you drink, and the stuff you live in.

Inflammation is generated by everything: the stuff you breathe, eat, drink, and live in.

That’s where those reactive oxidative species are coming from. If we lived in a perfectly clean environment, ate perfectly clean food, had no toxins, had no pesticides, and had nothing harmful come into our bodies, then what you’re suggesting is that the body is built to live about 140 years.

You still would have to deal with reactive oxygen species. It’s the one design flaw in the divine design of the human body. Reactive oxygen species are a side effect of energy production in the mitochondria and the inner membranes. As it’s converting ATP and energy to do everything to be human, it kicks out reactive oxygen species multiple times every single time they make that chemical process. That’s why your body has glutathione. That’s why your body has all of the other defense mechanisms to fight that.

As long as somebody gets enough rest, stays hydrated, gets activity, and eats clean, their body’s defense mechanisms will be enough without supplementation to get to that length of life. It’s a matter of taking care of yourself. It’s all about poor choices that decrease the lives of humans. I find it fascinating that humans are the only animals on this rock that would do things to intentionally hurt themselves. I can’t think of a single other animal that does something to intentionally hurt itself. You never see a penguin smoking. You never see the polar bears sitting around down in beers.

It’s not happening. My understanding of the way C60 works is that it has six different electrons available to bond to a reactive oxidative species. It hosts those for a while until the glutathione or melatonin can come, link to them, and clear them from the body. Is that right?

With the Carbon 60, it’s a chemical reaction. It can pull those hydrogens from its environment, wherever it is, and assign those hydrogens quickly to the oxygen radicals. It neutralizes the oxygen radicals, picks up another hydrogen, and does it again in rapid fire. The other enzymes that you mentioned, like glutathione, need cofactors. It’s a biochemical process. The difference is a chemical process versus a biochemical process. The way I like to describe it is if the biochemical process is a flint locked musket where you take your shot, and you have to reload, then the C60 is a multiple-round magazine.

Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Dr. Joe Nieusma | Inflammation

It’s rapidly going through your body, pulling those reactive oxidative species to itself very quickly and rapidly.

They’re assigning those hydrogens and then grabbing another one. Depending on the Carbon 60 size, if it’s a nano or a normal size, you can get into every nook and cranny of your body.

There are different sizes of it.

There can be. It’s all based on how it’s processed and how it conglomerates. If it’s not processed right, it stays very large.

We need it to be small to get into all those different tissues, microcapillaries, and all the places throughout our body to get to those reactive oxidative species. Anything that’s related to inflammation could be improved upon. Those are things such as immune function, autoimmune, arthritis, and any ailment.

My mom is 86 years old. She’s had two knee replacements. The first one, she had pre-C60. The second one, she had a C60. She had the second one right as COVID began, so she did all of her own rehab or all of her own PT at home over the phone with directions and stuff. The first one without C60 was much worse. There was a lot more inflammation, a lot more pain, and a lot more swelling. The second one with C60 on board had less swelling and less pain.

The physical therapy went faster and took a lot sooner. She has a better range of motion in that second knee replacement that she’s had. She’s doing fabulous. She’s 86 years old. She could easily live another 10 to 15 years. I have her on my two-prong approach. The C60 is antioxidative, but there’s also an oxidative part of that. Oxidative therapy is extremely important because it is how your body deals with pathogens.

Your body generates reactive oxygen species to kill bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew, and fungus. There are lots of different ways you can do that. The immune system does it in controlled reactions to create, use, and neutralize exactly what C60 would eliminate. There are other ways you can supplement that, like using hydrogen peroxide, ozone, hyperbaric oxygen, or chlorine dioxide.

All of these are oxidative therapies, which boost your body’s capacity to eliminate things that they aren’t supposed to be exposed to. These are agents that suck resources from your body’s natural ability to heal. If you have the oxidative therapy and combine it with the antioxidative therapy, those two things are the closest thing to Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth that I’ve ever seen in my life.

Eliminating Pathogens Through Oxidative Therapy

Say a little bit more about the oxidative therapies and whatever you’re able to.

The oxidative therapies are designed to eliminate things from your body that aren’t supposed to be there. I’ll tell the audience that I have a great PDF that I love to share. It’s a do-it-yourself guide to my favorite oxidative therapy. If they get in touch with you, get in touch with me. Give me their email address. I will send them this PDF and answer all their questions on it.

It’s the way the body eliminates stuff that’s not supposed to hang out and take resources. If your body is not bogged down with the daily firefight of fighting things it’s not supposed to have exposure to, and it frees up resources. Your body takes those resources and allocates them to where it knows it needs to heal. Your body is divinely designed to heal. If given the resources, it will heal. Have you ever heard of macular degeneration?

Your body is divinely designed to heal if given the proper resources.

Yes.

That’s where you start getting a big spot in your field of vision. Your eyes are destroying themselves. Guess what? Inflammation is the underlying cause of that. I know a retired physician. Her name is Dr. Loretta Ivory. Her eye doctor said that she had macular degeneration. She has pictures of it. It was beginning to get the spots, and her eye doctor said, “Prepare yourself to be blind. There’s nothing that we can do. You are going to be blind.”

Loretta, being the critical thinker that she is, didn’t accept that diagnosis. What she did was she got hold of Max and got some C60 from Live Longer Labs that was in olive oil. It’s a three-fluid ounce bottle that’s designed to last a month and comes with an eyedropper. Every Sunday, she would drink a whole bottle of that. She would take a month’s worth of C60 every week. It took several months. Not only did she stop her macular degeneration, but she also reversed it. She’s got the pictures before and after it.

Those eye doctors broke their arms, patting themselves on the back with what a fine job they did treating Dr. Loretta. Dr. Loretta, I don’t think she ever told him what she did. For a disease that formerly had no treatment, somebody who’s super smart herself said, “I’m not buying that.” She got ahead of the inflammation that was destroying her eyes and her field of vision. Not only did she stop the progression of a horrible, debilitating disease, but she reversed it.

I got her phone number. If somebody says, “I want to talk to Dr. Loretta because I got the same thing.” I put them in touch. Dr. Loretta, even though she’s retired, still loves helping people. She’ll share her story and give them all the insider information about how she did it, how it’s not supposed to happen, and how it does happen. Even talking about it, it’s wonderful to know that there are things that can occur if people are open to the thought process of saying, “What if?”

Maybe there’s another way. It’s interesting that she took it upon herself to chug a whole bottle once a week instead of taking the recommended dose every day. Maybe there’s something to that, too.

She asked me. She was like, “Is there any downside to taking this much?” I said, “Absolutely not.” When Max was talking about what the upper dose of Carbon 60 that somebody can tolerate was, I scoured, and I still scour the literature on a fairly regular basis. I still can’t find an upper-bound dose that would be toxic to humans for Carbon 60.

My understanding is that it lasts about ten days in our systems before it clears out.

Do you know what I do when I take my capsules? Remember in grade school when they had the pencil sharpeners where you had to sharpen your pencil. It had a little receptacle out of it. You took it off, sniffed that receptacle, and smelled the pencil shavings. Remember what that smells like?

That graphite smell.

When your body is saturated with C60, you get a little bit of a burp, and you smell and taste pencil shavings.

It’s essentially the same.

It’s a piece of a story. When I first tell people about that, they’ll be like, “How much do I take?” I say, “Try five a day. Your body is going to get this, and it’s going to go all over the place and start making you feel phenomenal.” She’s like, “How much will be too much?” I say, “You’ll know that you’re saturated when you burp up a little bit and taste or smell pencil shavings.”

I told my sister this. She’s my younger sister. In her twenties, she contracted Lyme disease. Lyme disease is insidious. It hides, comes out, and smacks you. Whenever you’re having a challenging episode where something else has got you down, Lyme disease comes up and smacks you right down. Finally, in her 50s, her Lyme disease had gotten her so debilitated that she had to crawl from her bed to the bathroom.

I got her on the phone and said, “Jennifer, I can help you with this. Oxidative therapy and antioxidative therapy. You need to use this product in this manner at this dose, and you need to use the C60 afterwards.” Finally, she listened to her older brother Joe. As a brother, I don’t know anything, but she listened to me because she was hurting so bad.

I talked to her a month later, and she said that she was happy as could be. Twenty-eight days into the oxidative and antioxidative therapy, she said to me on the phone that for the first time in decades, she went a day without taking her pain medicine. I called her back the next week, and she said, “It’s been seven days since I’ve taken my pain medicine.”

She called me back maybe a week later and wanted me to tell her the story of the pencil shavings again. She’d burped it up, and she smelled pencil shavings. She’s like, “I remember something like that.” She called me back, and I explained it to her. I said, “What does that tell you? It took you a month and a half for your body to feel like it had a shred enough to say, ‘I’m saturated.’” I told her, “Don’t slow down because all you’ve done is rooted out the easy work. You might not even have started to attack Lyme disease yet.” She’s functioning. She’s working again. She’s walking her dogs. Praise the Lord.

That’s amazing. Sometimes, it comes in handy to have a brother who’s a toxicologist.

She had to overcome the six inches between her ears, which is a lot of people’s biggest point of inertia.

Taking Antibiotics For Pneumonia: Is It A Good Idea?

Let’s say that somebody has pneumonia, and they’re taking antibiotics or things like that. I know that this combination of oxidative and antioxidative therapies could help with removing the inflammation. In that kind of case, would you recommend taking antibiotics or trying something like this instead, or doing both?

Either one. It’s walking around a pond. You’re going to arrive at the same point at the same time. If you do both, you get there faster. The fact of the matter is that the oxidative therapies will attack the pathogens without killing your gut micro. You may get to the point of getting over the pathogen without having to suffer through the antibiotic-induced diarrhea.

To maintain your gut health, you could use oxidative therapy to remove that. Do those act like a binder and grab hold of those pathogens?

The oxidative therapy enhances how your body naturally gets rid of those pathogens.

The oxidative therapy enhances how your body naturally gets rid of pathogens.

It’s giving a little extra boost to that.

It’s giving your immune system a boost. The immune system gets a bad rap. It is extremely powerful. Nobody gives it enough credit until it gets out of whack. When the immune system gets out of whack, it’s very difficult to get it back in whack, if you know what I mean. All of those autoimmune disorders are so destructive to the body.

The fact of the matter is, Carbon 60 can help in a lot of those situations because it eliminates some other firefights and allows your body to concentrate on keeping things operating the way they’re supposed to be operating. We can’t make any claims, but it’s what we see in people who are using these products.

Why Aren’t There More FDA Clinical Trials On C60?

I’m curious. I’ve had others on the show who have talked about the same molecule. Why aren’t there more studies? Why aren’t there more FDA clinical trials and things like that that have been done on C60 to this point, in your opinion at least?

I have a theory on that. When Max originally did his initial research on Carbon 60, he found articles that you could hold in one hand, just a few articles. It exploded in 15 to 20 years’ time. Max has a patent on some of his products. The rest of the patents belong to the pharmaceutical industry. The pharmaceutical industry scooped up this discovery and started blindly writing all kinds of patents to suck it up and make it another blockbuster “Let’s make the pharma companies rich” product.

As far as Max is concerned, he was conscientious enough to get his process or his product patented so that he had a little bit of protection, but it’s still a very buyer-beware market. The Carbon 60 market is so dependent on the purity of the Carbon 60. The higher the purity, the more expensive the product is. If you’re buying the cheapest thing on the Amazon results that pull up, you’re paying your nickel and taking your chance. Look at the label.

Read the labels and find out how pure it is. The purest is 99.999%, and it goes down from there. The impurities are what can cause some of these toxicities that have been seen. I don’t think there have been clinical trials on it because big pharma is slaying different giants. This is a product that would be preventative in nature.

I think they’re missing the boat because it is a long-term customer base product, but they don’t see it as a traditional pharmaceutical product. It’s what you do to stay healthy instead of, “I’m sick. How do I get better?” That’s an important distinction, staying healthy versus, “I’m sick. How do I get better?” What most people do is spend their twenties being immortal, eating stupidity, and doing stupid stuff.

In their 30s, they’re building wealth and trying to establish what they’re doing in life. In their 40s, the body starts breaking down. In the 50s, they spent all the money they made in their 30s to get their health back. In their 60s, they’re like, “Why was I so stupid? I should have moved to Florida a long time ago and bought a fishing pole.”

You briefly mentioned this idea of a biblical diet. Can you say more about that and maybe other lifestyle factors or other things that you see are foundational to this preventive approach?

I’d love to say more about the biblical diet, but I haven’t learned what it is. I’ve heard people talk about it, but I’ve never seen it delineated. If I were to take a guess, I would think it’s a lot more plant-based stuff and a lot of natural, whole, raw foods, such as nature’s proteins, not animal tissues, and that type of thing. It’s probably more of a Middle Eastern to a Mediterranean style diet and not heavy, unprocessed foods like the American diet. There are probably resources out there that would line out, “Here it is,” but I haven’t run into it yet.

Dr. Nieusma’s Daily Habits For A Healthier Body

As we’re winding down in our time here, what are some of the daily habits that you do for your own longevity in addition to C60?

If somebody tells me, “What’s the first thing I can do that’s not going to hurt me very much?” I tell people that tap water is designed to be good enough not to make you sick. Don’t drink tap water. Run it through a carbon filter in your fridge at the very least, a Brita filter if you can get that, or even better, a five-stage filter.

The one I use is called a ZeroWater filter. Get it from Walmart, Target, Amazon, or wherever. That takes out all of the nasty gunk in your water, and you remember what good water is supposed to taste like. When that happens, you drink more water. Hydration is the key to so much. Ninety percent of the population is chronically dehydrated. Water is low-hanging fruit. Get it through a water filter. ZeroWater is the one I use.

It’s a constant battle, but the best food advice I ever got was from a lawyer. I was an expert in one of his cases. We were getting ready to go into a deposition. We were having lunch before him. Lunch came, and he was like, “As a toxicologist, this is my toxicology advice for food. If you eat half and mostly plants, you’re going to be okay.” I’ve gotten to think about that. I’m like, “He’s right. Eat half and mostly plants, and you’re going to be okay.” There you go. That’s two huge bullets on what you can do every single day to make yourself start down the journey to better wellness.

Get In Touch With Dr. Nieusma

Dr. Joe, this is fascinating stuff. How can people get that PDF that you mentioned? How can they connect with you?

They can go to my website, SuperiorToxicology.com. You can either click on the thing that says you can send me an email or click on About. You’ll find my cell phone number. You can send me a text. You can give me a call. If I can, I’ll answer. If you leave me a voicemail, I’ll get back to you. Sometimes, it takes longer than others, but I will get back to you. Send me that email and say, “Send me the PDF you mentioned in Zach’s show about oxidative therapy,” and I’ll send it to you with what that’s all about.

The pharmacology audit that you mentioned is at DrJoeForHOPE.com, right?

Correct. Through the first website, you can get to it, or if you search for Dr. Joe for HOPE, you can get to it there, too. I’m happy to help anybody in that arena, too, because that changes lives. You’ll get your life back when you get off unnecessary pharmaceutical products.

You will get your life back when you get off unnecessary pharmaceutical products.

Thanks for that good work that you’re doing there as well. Live Longer Labs is the C60 product you recommend.

Live Longer Labs is where you get the Carbon 60 product. It’s not my company. They gave me a coupon code to share with everybody. It’s DrJoe15. When you buy something from Live Longer Labs, you put in that code. All it does is they want to make sure that I’m talking about their product, and it gives you guys a little bit of a discount.

You get a better discount if you bundle and put yourself on auto-shipping. That’s Live Longer Labs. It’s a great product. I love it. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t take it. My kids take it. My son is an elite hockey player. He finished his senior year in college. It helps him recover. My mom takes it and she loves it. It doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re at.

This is fascinating. I’m grateful for your willingness to share your expertise with us and for all these amazing tips and advice. I’m grateful you also explained the science behind it and shared some of the stories and data behind the things that you’re doing and the things that you’re seeing happening. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all live to 140 and live to 140 healthily? That’s the key. We want to have a long health span.

If you’re still riding bikes and going scuba diving at 135, you’re doing something right.

Thanks so much. Bye.

Discussion Wrap-up And Closing Words

I hope you enjoyed the conversation. We covered a lot of topics there. I hope it inspired you to do a little bit more digging. I know for me, I’m digging into this molecule C60. We’ve had a couple of experts on, talking about that and all the benefits. I appreciated Dr. Joe sharing some anecdotal stories and things that he’s seen and how that has made a significant difference.

We talked about what it comes down to in preventative health, extending health, and managing chronic illness. It is managing chronic inflammation, which is at the root cause of all of these major chronic illnesses that we’re faced with. How can we combat that? It’s through both oxidative therapies and antioxidative therapies.

The antioxidative therapy is Carbon 60. It’s probably the world’s best antioxidant. For the oxidative therapies, he mentioned things like hyperbaric oxygen, ozone, and others. He is willing to send you a PDF on how to utilize those therapies if you send him an email. You can also get a pharmacology audit. DrJoeforHOPE.com is his website for the pharmacology audit, but you can find all of that through his main website, SuperiorToxicology.com.

His cell phone is listed there, and his email. He will send you a PDF, if you ask for it, about oxidative therapies. That’s SuperiorToxicology.com. The C60 company he mentioned is called LiveLongerLabs.com. If you use DrJoe15, you get a discount that way, too, if you want to try it out for yourself. Thanks so much for tuning in. We hope you have a great day. We’ll see you back here next time.
