Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Kyle Hulbert | Root Cause Detoxification

Many people assume chronic fatigue, brain fog, and mood shifts are just natural parts of growing older. In reality, hidden environmental toxins and heavy metal burden may be the actual culprit requiring root cause detoxification. CEO of Longevity Centers of America Kyle Hulbert sits down with host Zach Gurick to share his personal health journey from severe mental health struggles to full recovery. They discuss how heavy metals accumulate over generations, entering our bodies through everyday items like water, food, and air. Kyle explains the difference between traditional, functional, and integrative medicine, highlighting targeted protocols like chelation and blood oxygenation. You’ll learn simple, practical steps to lower your toxic load, support your body’s natural defenses, and optimize your long-term healthspan.

Beyond Aging: Uncovering Root Causes Of Fatigue With Kyle Hulbert

Welcome back to the show. What if some of the symptoms you’ve been struggling with, such as fatigue or brain fog, anxiety, depression, hormone imbalances, or chronic inflammation, are not simply a normal part of getting older? What if your body’s been trying to tell you something all along? Our guest has lived that reality firsthand. Kyle Hulbert is the CEO of Longevity Centers of America, and he’s the co-host of the Longevity Unlocked podcast. He’s also a wellness and integrative nutrition coach, specializing in detoxification and root cause health.

Before helping thousands of people reclaim their health, Kyle found himself fighting a battle that few people around him knew existed. While completing his master’s degree, his life appeared successful from the outside. Yet behind the scenes, he was struggling with depression, mental health issues, physical pain, and even suicidal thoughts that seemed to have no explanation. Everything changed when advanced testing uncovered an unexpected culprit. Significant heavy metal toxicity.

That discovery launched Kyle on a journey into detoxification, integrative medicine, and longevity science. One that ultimately led him to co-found Longevity Centers of America, where he and his team have helped more than thousands of patients remove barriers to their healthiest lives. In this conversation, we’ll explore whether heavy metals, mold, and environmental toxins may be silent contributors to many of these chronic health challenges. We’ll discuss what detox really means, why some popular detox protocols can actually do more harm than good, and how to think critically about advanced therapies like chelation, therapeutic plasma exchange, and EBOO.

We’ll define what that is as well. We’ll also talk about how to evaluate longevity protocols, avoid costly mistakes, and become a more informed advocate for your own health. As always, our goal is not to create fear about the world around us. It’s to empower you with knowledge, practical tools, and hope so that you can make wise decisions that help you live the vibrant, purposeful life you were created to live. Whether you’re dealing with unexplained symptoms, curious about detoxification, or simply looking for new ways to optimize your health span, I think you’re going to find this conversation both fascinating and incredibly practical. Please join me in welcoming Kyle Hulbert to the show.

Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Kyle Hulbert | Root Cause Detoxification

Kyle, thank you so much for being here. It’s really exciting to be able to have this conversation with you. I know that you’re going to bring so much wisdom, experience and expertise from your everyday day-to-day life. Being the CEO of the Longevity Centers of America, you’re deep in this work. I’m excited to learn from you and for our audiences to learn from you and to get educated.

I’m excited to be here. Let’s have a great conversation.

I’d love to just, if we could start off with a little bit of your own story and how you found yourself in this position. It’s fascinating, interesting, and I’m always curious how people end up where they are. If you do not mind, can you take us back through parts of your journey that led you to where you are now?

I’d have to start back in undergrad, and I was just starting to get tired. Starting to fall asleep in class, just didn’t have some brain fog, had a little bit of mood volatility. It was confusing to me because I was like, I was dealing with these three things, and I lived a cleaner, better life than everybody else. I slept eight to nine hours every single night. I did not party. I did not drink. I did not do drugs. I worked out as a varsity athlete. I am strength-trained. I did cardio, drank purified water, you name it. I did all the things. I took supplements and yet I was still more tired. I still had more brain fog, and still, like this moody volatility, I had more than all of my peers.

I was like, what is going on here? I was like, there’s something wrong. I didn’t really think much of it. Though, maybe I’m just pushing really hard in the gym, and this is just the side effect of it. It’s just that I’m going too hard. I went into my master’s degree. That’s when everything started to really manifest for me. I started getting mental health symptoms, started having anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, the whole nine yards. I was living the perfect life objectively doing my master’s degree in a rotation in Dubai and like twenty something floor of my apartment in Dubai, thinking I should jump off that balcony. That’s how bad my mental health was.

Uncovering Hidden Metal Toxicity

I was like, “This does not make any sense.” I went from doctor to doctor. I went to six doctors, including the best one in my town. Half of them said, “We cannot find anything.” The other half said, “You’re making it up. In your head. Psychosomatic.” I was like, “I’m not making this up. I promise you, I live a clean life, and I feel like garbage. What’s going on?” Symptoms kept getting worse. I got joint pain, allergies, gut problems. Now I have mental health problems, gut problems, allergies, joint pain, fatigue, some sleeping problems, brain fog, emotional volatility. I have every symptom.

I’ve got them all, like Pokémon. These doctors didn’t help me at all. I dove down the rabbit hole, and I found the father of biohacking, Dave Asprey. I started listening to some of his stuff, and he said, “Test your testosterone.” That was like my gateway into this world of integrative medicine. Non-traditional medicine. Integrative medicine is like, it’s not functional medicine that focuses on only diet, lifestyle and supplements, it’s not traditional medicine that only focuses on pharma. It’s the combination thereof. How can we use the best tool to fit what we’re dealing with? That’s what our practices do, integrative medicine. This was my first step in integrative medicine.

I went and got a testosterone test and it was 159. If you know anything about testosterone, I was in my low twenties. It should have been over a thousand. It was 159. Brutal. I got on HCG and it’s a form of testosterone placements, more natural than actual injections. Within one week my mental health symptoms were gone. There was like 95% improvement in my mental health in one week. Just testosterone. That was it. From there I was like, there’s something to this integrative medicine stuff. How in the world did I have this crazy set of mental health symptoms for years and then one thing, one test and then one treatment and then they’re gone. How does that work?

I was like, there’s something else here because I still have, I still have some brain fog. I still have gut issues and joint pain and allergies. I still have all these things. Maybe there’s another testosterone out there. Maybe there’s another low lying fruit, something easy to solve. I kept digging. I kept digging and I went to a biohacking conference. Just a bunch of people that love experimenting on themselves. They have all the booths and all the tech. Here’s the red light, this and the electromagnetic pulse. Here’s the vibration plate and here’s the thing that’ll make you jacked in 60 seconds a day and all the stuff.

I found this doctor there who would do lab work once a quarter and he would say, “Here’s what you need to do to dial it in, optimization.” What he did is he took me from testosterone replacement therapy to hormone optimization. He optimized my growth hormone. He optimized my testosterone. He optimized my thyroid, all which were suboptimal. I started feeling a lot better. The fatigue started going away, there was still this underlying something. Still had a little bit of the brain fog going on, the gut, the allergies, all that stuff.

He says, “I want you to go to a friend of mine. I want you to get tested for toxins down in South Florida.” I go down there, I get tested. The doctor who ended up treating me is my now business partner, Dr. Benjamin Kosubevsky. It turns out I have chronic mercury. Little by little, as he treated me for the mercury, I got better and better. Symptoms just started falling off. Weight fell off. Every time I went, I’d lose like one to three pounds of just water weight inflammation. I just got better and better.

Over time we became good friends. I just said, “Listen, if you ever want to open your own clinic. You give me a shout.” One day he made that call. That’s when he told me he was like, “I’m losing patients because they cannot afford the treatments. I do not want this to keep happening. I want to offer these treatments more affordably. I need you to go figure it out.” That’s what we did. We figured out a way to make a lot of these treatments more accessible.

I love that. There are so many amazing technologies and modalities and therapies and things like that, but it all starts to add up. I just started adding up the supplements that I take every month. I’m like, “I need to have a full budget just for some of these things I’m taking.” I love that you’re trying to make it more accessible for everybody. A lot of times people hear about toxins and toxic load or heavy metal. You had mercury poisoning. Can you tell us like, where do you actually see heavy metal toxins coming from? Were you just eating way too much fish or how did you get that?

You actually name it where they come from. They would come from all over and older populations. You’re looking at lead paint, lead gasoline. It was using all kinds of manufacturing, all kinds of toys and things. Older generations nowadays, like the big one for the younger generations, is aluminum, like aluminum deodorant, aluminum pans. Getting it all over your household items. For me, mercury is often some combination of fish, amalgam fillings, and silver fillings. That’s a big one.

How Heavy Metals Pass Down Generations

It’s probably the biggest one for mercury. What people do not realize about heavy metals is you’re often born with some. Your mom will pass on some of her burden to the baby. You’re born with heavy metals. If you think about it, I have this theory. It’s a Coach Kyle theory. You think about the Industrial Revolution when heavy metals started being used regularly in production, machinery, manufacturing, all those things, maybe the 1920s and 1930s. You think about how they accumulated some heavy metals there.

They passed some of it down to the next generation, which then accumulated some more. They passed that to the next generation. Here we are 6, 7, 8 generations removed. We are now hitting a point where we have a mental health crisis for people in their teens. Do we have a mental health crisis or do we have a toxin crisis? They’ve done cord blood studies where they analyze the toxins found in cord blood and they find hundreds of toxins for babies even born.

I never knew that. We actually are just, all of us are walking around with heavy metals from the time we’re born. Obviously can accumulate more as we go through life with, like you said, aluminum deodorant or pans, paints, toys, you name it dental amalgams.

Air, water, cosmetics, pesticides. Also, it depends on your genetics. Actually the body will recognize and tag heavy metals really well and remove them. Chances are that if that’s the case, your mom actually probably did a really good job of removing them and you didn’t get born with many. Genetically, if your mom didn’t do a great job of removing them and had a lot of them and you were born with a lot of them, you probably do not do great either by getting rid of them.

It’s a great example of this for people of Japanese ancestry. They have a mutation, a genetic mutation that allows them to tag the specific type of mercury that’s in fish. They’re not affected by it negatively at all. They perfectly excrete it. They can eat pounds of tuna and be totally fine. Whereas if I eat pounds of tuna, I would be very sick.

Experiencing unexplained fatigue or brain fog? Your symptoms might not be aging, but hidden toxins in your body.

Everybody’s a little different based on your genetic makeup and ancestry. That makes sense. They probably adapted over time. If your ancestors ate a lot of fish, then you adopted and probably had that genetic makeup that would allow you to clear that out more easily.

If you think about it, if they didn’t have it, most of Japan’s diet relies on tuna, a large predatory fish. Japan would not even exist. It would have devolved into chaos and everybody would have died because they all would have been mercury poisoned.

That makes sense. What kind of testing did you do or have done to identify that and what kind of testing do you guys do? I’d love to hear a little bit more about how you and Dr. K. launched Longevity Centers of America with that vision that you shared, but what was the test that you had done and how do you guys, or what do you recommend for someone that might be tuning in and say, “I have some of those symptoms that you named or should I get tested for all the metals?”

Because of our approach, our affordability aspect, we recommend specialty testing second. When you go in, you meet with us, you meet with a physician or one of our practitioners and they will give you a script to our longevity panel. It’s very comprehensive blood work. It’s like function labs, except more comprehensive. We have some more biomarkers than they do. From there, they’ll also gather in that appointment, all your subjective. Symptoms, goals, what you’re looking to improve, what you do not like, what’s bothering you. Health history, family, surgeries, medications, all of that. When those results come back, by the way, that lab work has run through your insurance. The bill depends on your insurance.

Targeted Testing Over Blanket Diagnostics

A lot of people get $0. Most people are 0 to 4 or 500 for super comprehensive blood work. Once those results come back, one of our practitioners sits down and looks at those results and looks at the subjective and says, “Based on your symptoms and these results, we would recommend this 1 or 2 specialty tests because we do not want to approach it like a lot of the concierge doctors do out there. Here’s $5,000 of testing. Go forth, give me all the data. That’s really nice if you’re a practitioner. That’s really not great if you’re the recipient of that, you have to pay a lot of money for a lot of tests that probably would tell you nothing. We only recommend tests if we are 80% or greater confident that it’s going to give us good information.

From there, we might recommend a heavy metals test. A heavy  metal provocation test is basically a, like two urine samples. One, you pee when you get to the office, pee in a little cup and we send that off and that’s your baseline. That’s how much heavy metal you excrete normally, just in your day to day life. You get an IV of a chelating agent. It’s either EDTA or DMPS. Both of these things bind to different types of metals. EDTA binds to things like aluminum, cadmium. Mercury binds to like arsenic, mercury. That’s the DMPS.

You get one of these IVs and then after that IV, you pee in a bucket for eight hours, shake it up, pour it in the cup and you send it out. That’s the post-test. Basically that IV goes into your body, goes into the tissues, grabs the heavy metal and excretes it through the kidneys. Now you have a baseline on how much you excrete by yourself and you have a test on how much you excrete with an agent that actually binds to it and pulls it out of your body. That will give you a proxy for how many of these heavy metals you have in your body.

Can you explain or break it down? Chelation, you described a little bit, can you just go into a little bit more detail on what exactly is chelation for those of us that are tuning in?

Chelation is just the removal of heavy metals. We do IV chelation, so you get it through intravenous IV drips. Chelation, the word actually comes from the Greek word meaning claw, because if you think about it, it goes into the body, goes into the tissues, and it grabs the heavy metal and it pulls it out. There are two different main IV chelators. One is DMPS. DMPS binds to mercury and arsenic. The other one is EDTA and it binds to just about everything else besides mercury and arsenic. It technically will bind to mercury and arsenic. It just does not prefer them.

How Chelation Therapy Removes Toxins

These chelators are excreted by the kidneys. They go in and they will actually go through the bloodstream into the tissues. They’ll go into the muscles, they’ll go into the organs and they will grab the heavy metals and then they will be rotated through the system, through the kidneys and excreted out somewhere between a twenty-hour period, all of them come out. We live in a very toxic world, like you mentioned before, in our water, in our food, in pesticides that are sprayed onto our food and all kinds of things and our aluminum deodorant, which we wipe onto our skin.

Detox is something that’s important. This is one way of starting that detox. Let’s say you get the blood test done that you mentioned with the longevity panel, then you do this chelation test and you see how much heavy metals you actually have. What next? Where do you go from there? What happens next? We make a plan for each person. One of our practitioners makes a custom plan for each person. We do not do memberships. We do not, pick your thing off the menu. You have a plan for your goals and your health.

Based on your burden of whatever it might be, say it’s heavy metals, we’ll make a plan. You might need 10, 20, 30 IV chelations. It just depends on what your burden is and what it’s going to take to get rid of it. If it’s glyphosate or mold, maybe you want to do the mold prescription. Maybe doc recommends a prescription that kills mold and Ibu treatment. That’s like blood filtration. Depending on what it is, there’s like a customized plan for each and every person. It’s hard to say, “This is the thing you do.” Literally even with heavy metals, if you have mercury, you do one IV, but if you have lead, you do a different IV.

It’s very precise and neutralized. Living in this toxic world, like how many people that come to your center, for example, on average, or what percentage would you say have some toxic load that they need from one of these treatments is either from mold or heavy metals or there you prescribe Ibu or TPE. We can talk about those things too. What percentage of people tuning in probably have some of this going on?

What percentage of people that come to our center have it? That’s a confirmation bias because they’re finding us. They know something’s wrong for the most part. It’s probably like 80%, 90%. In terms of the general population, somebody who might be tuning in to this I’m estimating people with heavy metal problems somewhere between 25% and 30 % of the population. If I was going to say heavy metal problems or parasites or Epstein-Barr or Lyme or toxins of some sort, I would say 55%, 60% in that entire category, like some roadblock to health span.

It’s like what we’re talking about is getting at the root cause of the root cause.

That’s a great point. It drives me nuts when people go “Hormones root cause.” Hormones are not the root cause of anything. Your hormones do not just decide to take a left. They do not just stop working one day. Unless you actually got kicked in the junk, like they do not just go off. There is a cause for the hormones being dysregulated.

I’m assuming like with your own story, the reason why your testosterone was 159 at age 23, was because of heavy metal.

It was mercury.

That was dysregulating your body’s ability to produce testosterone.

It was actually the production was just fine. It was the signaling from the pituitary. Mercury loves the brain. My pituitary gets saturated with mercury from a young age. The signal just never made it down.

Smart health optimization starts with targeted lab work rather than paying thousands for unnecessary testing panels.

Once you treated that root cause and got rid of all that mercury poisoning, did your body then go back to producing a normal or a more optimal amount of testosterone?

Some people do and we actually see that pretty regularly. Myself, no. Honestly, I had so much mercury so young during development, during puberty that my entire pituitary system just never functioned properly. It was thyroid, it was testosterone. It was a growth hormone. All three of them were just crushed.

You’re going to always need to supplement or have some exogenous testosterone provided to be in those optimal ranges.

I would not trade for anything because I feel great.

Can we talk about EBOO a little bit and TPE and other advanced therapies? Some of our audiences maybe do not know what EBOO is or a therapeutic plasma exchange. Could you explain those therapies in plain English for us?

EBOO is extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation.

Much easier to say EBOO.

Restoring Balance With Blood Oxygenation

EBOO is way better. Basically, it’s a closed-loop system. Blood comes out of one arm. It runs through a dialysis filter, which filters out all kinds of garbage particulates. It’s met in that filter with ozone and oxygen. The ozone kills bacteria and viruses. The oxygen super oxygenates the blood, which oxygen is like a life force, if you will. After the filter, the waste drops out of the filter on the bottom. You can fill out a bucket with inflammatory waste. The blood continues through a UV light system. It goes through another system that kills bacteria, viruses, other bad things, pathogens. It circles back and flows into your other arm. It’s a closed-loop system. It takes about fifteen minutes of active treatment all in. It’s about an hour and a half.

You’re putting that nice oxygenated ozone UV light protected blood back in without all the inflammatory agents out. You’ve just taken all that out. How do you think about the therapeutic plasma exchange?

I’m going to explain the levels of therapeutic blood exchange. People have a grasp on the whole thing. It started with apheresis. Apheresis is basically just separating your plasma and your red blood cells. There are clinics out there that will charge anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 to separate your red blood cells in your plasma and throw away your plasma and give back your red blood cells. The thought on this is that a lot of the garbage, inflammatory waste, pathogens, toxins, they live in the plasma. If you pull the plasma off, you get rid of those toxins manually. Here’s the deal.

If you were going to do apheresis, you could just go to your local plasma center and donate your plasma and they will pay you. They will actively pay you for the same treatment as apheresis. To pay thousands of dollars for that treatment makes no sense. Secondly, TPE. This is like the next evolution of plasmapheresis. TPE is basically you separate the red blood cells and the plasma, take the plasma away, throw it away. You chuck it. You come back with the red blood cells, go back to you and you replace it with albumin. This is the exchange part. Albumin is your replacement plasma, if you will. Do you know where the albumin comes from?

No.

Everybody thinks it’s synthetic. Nope, it comes from the people who donate. You get thousands of people and they take all the blood donated and they put it in this giant vat and I boil it a little bit. They bag it and they ship it to these centers. You’re getting about 2 or 3 liters of someone else’s blood product every time you do this. You’re hoping that that boiling killed everything in it because we do know there are pathogens that surpass and live past that boiling point.

You’re also hoping that somehow their filtration system, which may or may not be excellent, got all of the things that are inorganic and not living that are toxins. You’re reintroducing liters of other people, thousands of different peoples mixed in a vat, blood product back into your system with the thought that your blood product is less toxic than theirs.

It does not sound like therapeutic plasma. You’re not really recommending that.

We do not offer it.

Not a big fan. EBOO. Yours is controlled and you can see the product and you can use your own blood. How much does that cost at your centers like an EBOO treatment?

Do you know how much it normally costs?

I’ve seen different ranges.

Most average like nationwide, it’s probably like $1200, $1300 a session. Ours $830. If you buy a three-pack, it goes to $750 each.

Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Kyle Hulbert | Root Cause Detoxification

A lot of people might do this multiple times to really get everything out.

You want to do three. That’s why we incentivize that discount because if you think about it, it’s a pretty interesting dumping mechanism. If you clean the blood, the tissue signals that, “The blood is clean.” There’s an equilibrium dumping mechanism where the tissues will dump toxins into the bloodstream. You do another, you do it, cleans it again and they dump again. That’s when you get those main effects after those three.

We’re going through the sequencing of these protocols. It’s the testing. It’s the blood test and then the heavy metal test. There’s maybe some detoxing there. Maybe there’s a blood treatment like EBOO to get some of that out as well, which is probably considered part of the detox phase essentially. What’s next? Hormones, nutrition, optimization? Where are you going from there?

We usually actually work on those things right off the initial lab review. Once your labs come in, the practitioners will recommend your specialty testing, also here is your diet, lifestyle, supplement, hormones. Here’s all the things you could do from low-lying fruit.

There’s some best levels that are just easy to optimize. We need to take more vitamin D.

That’s the perfect example. If your vitamin D is twenty, great, take some vitamin D. “Here’s your vitamin D supplement, go.” We’ll do hormone optimization there as well. Especially if the patient has goals and symptoms that are not necessarily linked to anything. We might want to put in some peptide optimization. Maybe we’re going to do some further specialty testing or maybe we’ll just dial in with the hormones, diet and lifestyle first. For diet and lifestyle, have other practices and like gyms and people we work with that we refer people out.

We are not, because of our pricing, we’re not concierge. You do not come to us and we sit there and make you an entire diet plan. We also make you a workout plan. We will conduct the medical plan that you need. We’ll make it for you, custom, tell you what to do. We’ll refer you out, be like, “We need to fix this, this and this and your diet, lifestyle, your home environment, whatever it is. Here’s our recommended people you talk to.”

You do some peptide optimization as well. Can you share a little bit? I know that’s a hot topic right now. Everybody wants to know about peptides. Obviously, GLP-1s are exploding. What do you guys like to do for peptide optimization? Does that mean I have to give myself a lot of shots?

You name it. We do a lot of different peptides. Peptides are interesting. For people listening, if you have not heard of a peptide, it’s basically just a small chain of amino acids that signals the body to do things. There are some for fat burning, there are some for muscle gain, there are some for cognitive improvement, there are some for healing and tissue regeneration, there are some for sexual function, there are some for you name it, like blood vessels, longevity, there’s peptides for everything.

Enhancing Performance With Smart Peptides

We use a wide range of peptides, part of navigating what’s available and what’s allowed by the FDA is interesting. We do GLP-1s as well. It really depends on the patient’s goals. There might be a stack of 1 or 2 things that really get that patient moving towards their goal effectively. If you told me that, “I want to put on five pounds of muscle in the next 2, 3, 4 months.” We can make it, we can make a good peptide stack around that and help you get to that goal. Peptides are not magic bullets. People think they’re magic bullets. People love peptides.

Peptides do not work if you do not work. You have to do the work. You can take a healing peptide. Maybe it’ll do something for you. If you take a healing peptide and you go to physical therapy, you’re going to get much better benefits. A growth hormone peptide. You can take a growth hormone peptide and if you do not work out, is anything going to happen? Maybe. I do not know. If you work out and you take a growth hormone peptide, you’re going to see some results. Peptides are not a magic bullet.

The answer to what you’re already doing.

The same works for GLP-1s as well. All the people will argue they are a magic bullet. They’re not. Because if you do not do the work, if you do not eat the protein, if you do not lift the weights, if you do not clean up your lifestyle, you’re going to lose all your muscle mass. When you stop that GLP-1, you’ll regain everything you lost and worse because you do not have any muscles. It’s not a magic bullet.

You still have to do the work. Peptides are amazing at helping us get to our goals, they are not the be-all, end-all solution. I do not have to do anything. That being said, if you do not like shots, probably not for you. Most of them are injectables. Some of them are twice a day. I do an injection probably every AM and PM just because I’m that guy. There’s a lot of peptides though. There’s a class called peptide bioregulators that the peptide bioregulators are oral.

You can take them orally and they do not actually work like normal peptides. They’re very small chains of amino acids and they’re organ specific. You have heart ones, your brain ones, kidney ones. You do not necessarily feel them. They just enhance the effect of your organs, enhance the health span of them. There’s a lot of people that will do rotations of peptide bioregulators to bring up the function of all their organs and help them live longer and healthier.

Cycle them on and off.

There’s like twenty something. If you take two a month and you can get through all of them every year and just rotate.

There’s a way. You’re cycling through all of those and it’s fantastic. What about biohacks? You mentioned you went to a biohackers conference. There’s a lot of biohacks. “Biohacks” that you guys are implementing there. What would you say one biohack that’s dramatically overrated and what’s one that’s surprisingly underrated?

Overrated cold plunge all day. Cold plunge all day. What blows me away is that people are like, “You’re going to get shredded. You’re going to lose fat in this cold. I’m burning a thousand calories right now.” I’ve literally seen it online. It does not work like that. It literally does not. You might burn twenty extra calories in that cold plunge. Maybe the total effect is 120 if you look at reheating, like it’s nothing. Go walk. You’ll burn more like the fat burning effects of cold plunge. Also, a lot of the long term benefits of cold plunge are way overblown. Cold plunge helps acutely.

If you’re feeling low energy and you need to jump, you do not want to have some caffeine. It’s too late in the afternoon. Cold plunge. Great. You’ll get up and running. If you’re really sore after a workout the next day, jump in the cold plunge. It actually helps that pretty incredibly. Those acute little bursts are really good, but like these long-term effects that people are saying that cold plunge does like totally rewires your stress response and helps you lose fat and brown fat and you’re going to get shredded. No, it just does not do that.

EBOO therapy helps filter out inflammatory waste while supercharging your blood with fresh ozone and oxygen.

What’s one that’s surprisingly underrated?

Surprisingly underrated walking. I do not even know if you can call it a biohack, but it’s so underrated. It’s incredible. Walking does so many things beneficial for your health, especially if you can walk outside. Walking outside post meal is like one of the best things you can do for your health. You’re controlling the glucose spike. You’re draining out toxins by moving your lymph.

You’re activating your entire posterior chains. You’re getting some muscle activation. You’re helping your entire circulation, your heart, cardio. Literally, almost every system is beneficially impacted by walking. If you’re in the number 10,000 steps, it was made up. It was just like a pedometer company that was like 10,000 steps. That seems right. The health research seems to be about 8,000. 8,000 is the goal. If you can get 8,000, that’s going to increase your lifespan, your health span.

Simple Daily Steps For Long Term Vitality

Walking post meals has got to be the most underrated thing. People just do not talk about it enough. I dare you to take a fifteen minute walk after dinner for two weeks and not eat anything after dinner. Just a fifteen-minute walk after dinner and do not eat. You can eat dessert immediately after dinner and then walk, that’s fine. Do not eat anything after the walk and then feel how your sleep feels. Feel how you feel in two weeks. I guarantee you it’ll improve.

That’s good. I love that you’re trying to make your companies make things more accessible. You’re making these longevity more equitable, more accessible. If someone had, let’s say, $100 a month to invest in their health, where would you tell them to begin? What would you tell them to do to get started? Buy a water filtration device. Spend the rest on upgrading your food. Honestly, that’s where I’d start. Can check online, go ask ChatGPT, or Claude and be like, “What’s the best on-the-counter water purification device that has third-party testing?”

Third-party testing. Do not believe their own claims. It’ll spit some out. Can spend, there are decent ones now for like $40, $50. There’s really fancy ones for like $400 or $500. The $40, $50 ones. Perform 95% of the job the fancy ones do. Start there and then with the rest of your, with the rest of your $100 that month, just look at the dirty dozen. It’s a website for EWG and those are the things that are the worst with pesticides and just buy those things organic. I love that website. I go there and have had other guests that they talk about.

It’s an amazing website. The EWG certification like, and the dirty dozen clean fifteen, like massive resources for people.

If those of you tuning in if you want to have some convincing to buy that water filtration device go on that website put in your zip code and find out all the toxins that are in your water in that zip code and then you’ll spend the $40, $50 to get the water filtration device. What about health myths? What are some of the biggest myths that you’re seeing out there? Related to health or health span or longevity, there’s so much noise right now. How do you cut through some of that?

Health myths, dude, there are too many, honestly. It’s rough. With social media, the things I see online, I’m like, “Dude, you just made that up.” You literally just made it up. There’s nothing in the research. Narrow it down a little bit for me. Pick a realm of health myths. I can dial into one because there are dozens and dozens and dozens.

Let’s go with supplements. What supplement would you rarely go without and which ones would you say, those are probably not going to make a big difference.

When it comes to supplements, anything marketing detox for the most part is garbage. Here’s the problem with detox supplements. One, you do not know what you have. How do you know if that specific supplement is actually going to detox the toxins that you have not tested? Two, most of them do not work for the things they say they work for. There’s maybe one over-the-counter supplement that will detox mercury.

You have to do it right and it’s a whole process. Charcoal, all these like detox marketing things, they do not detox heavy metals. They will not work. They work in the gut. Might detox your gut for some things, they’re definitely not going to detox your tissues and use systemically. Generally detox as a supplement, like the whole category, that’s probably the biggest myth and thing I would stay away from. Now I want to throw a caveat in there.

I am a big believer in supporting your detox pathways. NAC, glutathione, things that help your liver work better. Kidneys support hopping in the sauna, you’re sweating, supporting your detox pathways, magnesium, if you’re constipated, like all those things, very solid, great evidence, like keep that rolling. The supplements that are actually marketed to actively detox you, it’s just marketing. The supplement that is like blow-laying fruit, said the easy one.

One that you wouldn’t rarely go without.

Magnesium. That would be a big one. I have like five. Fat soluble vitamins D, A, K, E, that’s one. Trace minerals, this is the rest of a multi mineral complex. Omega-3s, creatine and magnesium. Probably 90%, 95% of the population needs those five. That’s probably about it.

That’s great. I like that you’re sharing those because I take all of those. It’s helpful that I’m aligning with what you’re saying. If someone came to you and let’s say they’re age 50 and they said their goal is to live to 100 and great health, where would you start and what would you say is possible?

If we’re going the peer optimization route, like they do not have anything wrong with them, like no overt symptoms. They’re feeling good living life. Is that who this is?

Sure.

You’re feeling good, living life?

Average, yes.

Taking a 15-minute walk after dinner can stabilize glucose levels and boost your overall sleep quality effortlessly.

We’re going to do comprehensive testing. Based on that, we’re going to nail the specialty testing that’s recommended, that the lab work would indicate. Based on your goals, we would build out a whole testing profile of like, this is what we want to look at. From there, we would remove the roadblocks. It’s hard to live to 100, like being focused on longevity. Let me take this longevity supplement that showed lifespan in mice three times. It’s hard to do that kind of stuff if you have not removed the base level roadblocks.

If you have mercury interrupting how your cells are functioning, I do not think that supplement’s going to do much. You want to get Lyme disease and remission. You want to get the Epstein-Barr remission. You want to get rid of the mold. You want to get rid of the heavy metals. You want to get rid of the pesticides. You want to get rid of the glyphosate. Get rid of the roadblocks first. I do testing and then based on what the testing showed, I would do a custom detox program, only what you need.

Do not detox randomly and systemically. Just detox what you need, retest, confirm it’s gone. Once you’re done with that, I would do a maintenance problem, a program of some variation of stem cells, lifestyle optimization, peptides. I would throw an EBOO just because of the oxygenation you get from it. Diet and lifestyle, exercise, stem cells, peptides, EBOO. That’s probably like, “I’m going to live to 100 in good health” stack.

Sounds good. You’re in this world every day. When you think about the future, let’s say 5 years, 10 years from now, there’s a lot of breakthroughs happening at a rapid pace, especially empowered and triggered by AI, helping us with some of these challenges. What excites you the most as you look out into the future in terms of the extending health span, longevity, escape velocity, some of that stuff. What’s most exciting to you?

I love the theory of escape velocity. It’s something that makes me laugh. Maybe we’ll get there. We’ll see. The funny thing is those numbers are based off if money was not a thing.

There’s that too.

It’s like the billionaire’s money escapes. The rest of us are stuck here living to 120, but I’ll take it. In terms of the most exciting things coming down the pipeline, advances in peptides, I think, are one of the big ones, in my opinion. Biggest downside of peptides, what do you think it is?

I know a lot of them break down if you take them orally by their stomach acid. You got to inject them. That’s doing them to where they need to be.

Right there. The injection, right? People do not like injections. A lot of people will not give themselves injections. It’s a huge barrier. These things do miraculous things when stacked with lifestyle changes and the right things. We could have crazy beneficial effects, but a lot of people will not administer them. Where peptide research is going is like new binding systems.

There’s a lot of stuff coming out that will take the peptides that you have to do 2, 3, 4, 5 times a week, and you only have to inject them once or twice a month, which means you could swing by a doctor’s office like ours and they can administer it for you and you never actually have to do anything at home, which drops that barrier way lower. We should get it. We could have a lot more people enjoying the benefits of peptides once those binding systems are complete.

That’s just right on the horizon.

That’s like six months. Another one is CRISPR technology. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with CRISPR.

Gene editing.

It’s a little scary, sure. You’re looking at solving genetic diseases that we have not been able to touch, like not even close. That’s not nearly as close as the peptide research I was talking about, but it’s progressing rapidly. In terms of biologics and things like that, like stem cell science is rapidly progressing, regulations are changing. There’s new types of like cells that are available in the market, NK cells, natural killer cells, that can target things that are harming you in your immune system, stuff like that. There’s a lot being done with biologics. That’s advancing rapidly.

That’s only going to go as fast as the regulations allow it. When we have our first breakthrough, which means when the first stem cell product gets approved by the FDA, that’s probably going to be a momentous time in terms of what it opens up for stem cell research. Things like escape velocity and all the crazy biohacker like Bryan Johnson, right? Also, Bryan Johnson, like dude, is wicked smart. Founded a company, sold it for a billion dollars.

Now he’s doing all this research and the guy comes out with olive oil and dark chocolate. That’s his contribution. We couldn’t do better than olive oil and dark chocolate. I’m sure he has something in all that science, the millions of dollars of years, like millions of dollars every year that he spends that he could find something that could be a game changer. Anyway, I digress.

It’s a very interesting concept because there’s a lot of different routes that are all exploring this from different angles. You’ve got the Wnt pathway. It’s like a regeneration pathway. You’ve got the stem cell theory of aging. You have the senescence theory of aging and all these things, all this research is being done. Longevity as an industry, biotech clinics, research, all of that is probably going to be the number one industry in about 2036.

It’s going to pass oil and gas. Are we going to see some rapid changes? Yes. As AI speeds up and improves, it’s going to be logarithmic. We are going to be testing compounds, testing peptides, running them through entire testing protocols that do not even hit outside of a computer. By the time we make something, we’re pretty sure it works. That’s probably five years away.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of this and some rapid advances, which hopefully will also make the cost decline as well.

That’s something too. It’s like, in NK cells as a good example, like nobody can afford them. They are so freaking expensive. They’re 5X what our stem cells cost. Stem cells are not cheap. There’s like 1 or 2 labs and make them right. Give it a couple of years. If there’s a dozen labs competition, the price is going to settle and it will probably get cut. It’ll get cut in half and it makes it more available. Right now, like no one’s going to pay six figures, five figures for NK cells. Especially if you need multiple rounds, like I would not do it. That’s a high barrier to entry.

Fully Alive: Unlocking the secrets to your healthier, happier, longer life - Zach Gurick | Kyle Hulbert | Root Cause Detoxification

Tell us a little bit. I know we’re winding down here on time, but tell us a little bit like how much does that initial appointment cost at one of your clinics, Longevity Centers of America? You said the blood test is maybe anywhere from zero, maybe up to 400 or 500, depending on your insurance. That’s the blood test. What’s that initial process look like? How can someone connect there if they want to go through some of that testing?

The initial consult is $175. It gets applied to your first treatment. It’s actually free. Actually, once you get to treatment, it’s discounted. That first treatment is discounted $175. The first consult is technically free. It’s just a deposit for your first treatment. We did that because the patient does not get anything out of the first consult. We’re having them sign forms, and we’re getting their history, and their symptoms and all that and giving them a lab requisition, they didn’t get anything out of that. Why should that cost them money? It’s for the clinic. It’s so the doctor knows what they’re doing, and can get all the paperwork out of the way.

They actually got nothing out of that. We apply it to your first treatment. Lab work, usually most people $0 to $500. Worst case scenario, you run our thousand dollar cash panel. That’s the worst case scenario, if your insurance does not cover anything. Once you get the results in, you’re looking at a $99 lab review with one of our practitioners. It’s very accessible. All of our testing and all of our consults, we do a massive loss just to get people the information. Again, we believe that testing didn’t do anything for you. The testing is for us so we know how to guide you. The treatment is what helps you.

That makes a lot of sense. I like that you flip that business model around.

When I started, it’s customer centric. When I first got a consult in this industry, as a patient, it was $425. It was like twelve and a half minutes. I was like, “Oh.” I was like, ours is $175 with a credit and it’s an hour.

That’s the Longevity Centers of America. I know you have four different locations throughout. It sounds like, and you’re opening a new one there in Orlando soon. Your podcast is called Longevity Unlocked. That’s where you would like for people to go learn more if they’re interested in being deeper educated.

If you want to learn more, go to Longevity Unlocked. As we talked about, we have an episode on like every single service we have. We know we talked about EBOO in depth, we talked about EBOO versus TPE, we talked about chelation, we talked about all the things that we touched on in this episode, we have entire episodes on. You can go in depth and learn. If you want to go deeper, if you want to go real deep, go to the old ones. It’s like me in my guest bedroom a couple of years ago. Me and Doc just talked about the deep science of stuff for an hour and a half. If you’re going to go medium deep, like the more recent ones in the studio that are polished, those are probably better.

Longevity Unlocked and then Longevity Centers of America. Is there anywhere else that you would like people to try to connect with you?

For the most part, I’d just say go to the podcast. Listen, we really just want to get the education out there. We do not make any money off the podcast. In fact, we lose thousands of dollars every month doing the podcast. We generate almost no leads. It is purely for education and just to get these topics out there and discuss more.

That’s great. Thank you for the great work that you’re doing for making this accessible to people, for educating people. Thanks for educating us. This has been really helpful and fascinating. I love how practical and to the point you do things. It’s super helpful. I really appreciate it, Kyle. Once again, Longevity Unlocked is the name of your podcast and Longevity Centers of America. Great stuff. Thanks for being with us. I really appreciate all that you’re doing.

Thanks for having me on. It was a pleasure.

Have a great day. Thanks.

I hope you enjoyed that episode with Kyle Hulbert. I found it very fascinating and so practical. I loved a few things that really stuck out to me. The EBOO treatments, that sounds like something that they’re making accessible. He said that possibly 50%, maybe 60% of our population could have some heavy metal poisoning or toxic load that we might need to have some assistance in detoxing. Getting those things tested. I really liked their model that they’re democratizing longevity and they’re making it accessible for the common American person to be able to afford.

A lot of this, he mentioned their initial consultations is just $175, which is applied to your first treatment and then a $99 lab review. They use your insurance to get the lab panel drawn. You can really achieve a lot of this within a reasonable budget. Things just so practical, like going for a walk fifteen minutes after you eat a meal, it’s the easiest thing that we can do for our longevity and for extending our health span or get a water filtration device, filter out some of those toxins and decrease that toxic load.

Basic supplements that he mentioned, magnesium, vitamins D, A, K, and E, there’s actually some supplement companies that will put all of those in one supplement. Trace minerals, which I use every day. I put that in my coffee, omega-3s, creatine. Those are all things that are pretty basic. He said probably 95% of us need those things or those could be helpful.

Getting that panel done to see what’s low and what can be optimized is really a first step. You can find them and do a little bit more research, like you mentioned. If you want to do a deeper dive into any of these topics, there’s probably one of his podcasts available for that. It’s called Longevity Unlocked with Kyle Hulbert. He would love for you to check that out, Longevity Unlocked.

If you want to check out their website, Longevity Centers of America, you can find that it’s located in Florida and Greenville, South Carolina. They’re currently expanding Longevity Centers of America as well. Thanks so much for tuning in on the show. We’ll see you back here next time. We hope you have a great day.
