FORT MYERS – Shell Point’s president Peter Dys celebrated his 20th anniversary as a Shell Point employee on August 1, 2005.
Peter began working within the field of aging services and the nursing home industry in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area. He was also very involved in the Christian & Missionary Alliance, which led him to join Shell Point’s Board of Directors in 1981. When Shell Point’s executive director at the time, Bernard King, pondered retirement, the board requested that Dys consider accepting the position of administrator of Shell Point Village for one year, under Dr. King, and then become the executive director. He formally accepted this position on August 1, 1985 at age 40.
At that time, Shell Point had been going through some tough circumstances, financially and operationally. Through his conservative management and wise fiscal policies, Dys has led Shell Point to becoming the industry leader it is today. He oversaw the development of King’s Crown, Harbor Court, Sundial, a new Welcome Center, and the hurricane shelter. Perhaps his most significant initiatives as Shell Point’s President have involved the purchase of 400 acres of new property, for the purposes of expanding Shell Point as a community. From the first turn of a shovel to the successful launch of The Woodlands community, Peter Dys has been there.
His hands-on approach, with both residents and employees, has served him well these past 20 years. Whether it’s answering questions at a Resident Quarterly Meeting, congratulating fellow employees on a job well done, or working side-by-side with people evacuating during a hurricane, Peter Dys loves to roll up his sleeves and get to work. He is also a faithful member of The Village Church, and his spiritual values shine through in everything he says and does.
Peter and his wife of 38 years, Pat, have three grown children – Amy, Lori, and Jeremy – who are all married and have children of their own.
We’d like to congratulate Pete, our longest-serving president, on 20 years of service to Shell Point. Here’s to many more years of success and happiness.
