FORT MYERS, Fla. ( February 4, 2016)
While incidents of melanoma are on the rise, recent studies have shown that immunotherapy drugs can greatly improve the survival rate of patients with metastatic melanoma.
On Thursday, February 25, at 2:15 p.m., Shell Point Retirement Community welcomes Dr. Ryan Sullivan, medical oncologist with Massachusetts General Hospital, to its Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries Series for an educational healthcare presentation, entitled “Skin Cancer – Emerging Targeted Therapies for Melanoma.”
Dr. Sullivan will discuss the results of these drug trials and why this typically fatal cancer has seen “super survivors.” Learn what changes patients may experience in the medical landscape due to these discoveries, and what it means for the future of healthcare. After the presentation, hear from a panel of skin cancer experts and enjoy light refreshments.
This presentation is part of Shell Point’s 2015-2016 Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries series, an annual community healthcare speaker program that serves as a resource for residents in the greater Fort Myers area. All Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries events are free to the public, and will be held in The Village Church Auditorium at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Boulevard, Fort Myers. Sign up is required at 239-433-7936.
