The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point Retirement Community presents The History of Shell Point, with President Peter Dys, on Monday, Jan. 13 in the Village Church Auditorium from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m.
Dys will share a pictorial history of Shell Point in this informative presentation that recalls how Florida’s largest Lifecare community came to be, and the many changes and growth the community has experienced over the past 45 years.
Throughout his 28 years of service to Shell Point, Dys has had the opportunity to interact with the founders and other key individuals who have made Shell Point the success it is today, and he will share his recollection of personal memories and important events in Shell Point’s history. The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point is an educational initiative for the residents of the retirement community. The Academy provides approximately 90 classes each semester that encompass a well-rounded curriculum of educational opportunities for senior adults. The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point was named as one of 2008’s most innovative active aging programs by the International Council on Active Aging, an association that supports professionals who develop wellness/fitness facilities and services for age 50-plus adults.
