Monitoring the Storm

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall as a major storm, with current forecast models indicating Southwest Florida is within the projected path. Given the unpredictable nature of hurricanes and the high likelihood of a mandatory evacuation order from Lee County, we are beginning evacuation preparations now.

Preparing to Evacuate
If a mandatory evacuation order is placed, Shell Point residents will be required to leave their residences. Please make plans to leave the community now. Those who are not able to evacuate inland, out of area, or with friends and family, will begin evacuations to Shell Point shelters on Tuesday. While the storm is not set to begin until Wednesday, we must begin evacuations before our roads begin to flood.

Assisted Living residents and pre-qualified special needs residents will be moved to the Larsen Health Center on Tuesday morning and independent living residents will be moved to The Island shelter on Tuesday afternoon. We will provide building-specific pick-up times in Monday’s Community Update email. Read about what to pack for the shelter in the Hurricane Preparedness Guide. As a reminder, we cannot accommodate pets in the shelter.

Parking
We understand the importance of keeping vehicles safe from flooding, especially electric vehicles. However, parking in unassigned spaces on the second floors of parking garages adds significant weight and poses a structural concern. Please seek off-campus parking alternatives and consider coordinating with other residents to caravan to an offsite location.

Keep Others Informed
Important: If you are leaving the community, please inform the Call Center of your evacuation plans by calling (239) 454-2190. Please also keep your loved ones updated on your storm plans and remind them to visit this webpage for more information.

Dining and Activities
Vue and Blend will be open on Monday with regular hours, while all other dining facilities will be closed. From Tuesday to Thursday, all activities, events, dining, and venues will be canceled and closed.

Future Updates
You can expect another update on Monday with the evacuation pickup schedule. May God grant us strength and comfort during this time and guide us safely through the days ahead.
